The Times of Israel posted a rad article about Longboarding for Peace (LB4P), the initiative that Concrete Wave publisher, Michael Brooke started in 2012 to help give troubled kids in gangs a reason to stay out of jail and on a longboard. We partnered with Michael and LB4P for our "Girl Is Not A 4 Letter Word" board we have coming out with Cindy Whitehead during Vans Warped Tour this year. Be sure to check it out! Last week, the IASC summit and Skateboarding Hall of Fame went down in Anaheim, California and Dusters Creative Director Nano Nobrega along with old school pro skater Cindy Whitehead and Concrete Wave publisher and Longboarding for Peace founder, Michael Brooke were there to hear this years guest speakers talk about the latest in industry news, progressions the sport has made and issues it has yet to overcome. We were truly in the presence of skateboard legends including Christian Hosoi, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen and skate photographer Mörizen "Mofo" Föche who were all stoked on Cindy's "Girl Is Not A 4 Letter Word" collaboration board we have launching during the Vans Warped Tour to support Longboarding For Peace and GRO (Girls Riders Organization). We here at Dusters were hyped to be out at the KCRW Moves popup event in Venice to support a wonderful nonprofit called A Window Between Worlds. Dedicated to healing emotional wounds of domestic violence through art, they were joined by the #KCRWmoves crew during their Art in the Afternoon event this past Sunday. We were stoked to donate a couple boards for KCRW listeners who wanted to support a great cause!
Dusters California presents the new collaboration board, "GIRL IS NOT A 4 LETTER WORD", with OG pro skater Cindy Whitehead. Cindy arrived on the skate scene in the late 70's, she started skateboarding at Hermosa Pier doing Freestyle but quickly switched to vert at Skateboard World in Torrance. She soon became one of the few female Pros of the time and rode for Tracker Trucks, Sims Skateboards, Puma Tennis Shoes, Rector and Fly-a-Way Helmets. The board supports "Longboarding for Peace", and not only acknowledges, but encourages ALL female skaters. A portion of the proceeds will go to GRO (Girls Riders Organization), a non-profit that inspires, educates, and supports girls in action sports. The board was a design collaboration between Duster's creative director Nano Nobrega and Cindy Whitehead and will launch at the 2013 Vans Warped Tour and is available in stores this June. "Live life balls to the wall. Do epic shit. Take every dare that comes your way. You can sleep when you're dead." ~ Cindy Whitehead. Photos by Ian Logan, www.ianloganphoto.com.
